eCommerce Platform for World Wide Flower Delivery

Our team was recommended by one of our largest clients to a local entrepreneur who has been in the world-wide flower delivery business for the past 30 years. He was seeking ways to strengthen his business, particularly by developing a new eCommerce platform for his online business.

Requirements analysis started way back in March, with the intention of developing a new platform to run in parallel with the legacy systems which were already in place. The system requirements were mainly twofold. On one hand, a user friendly, well designed front-end eCommerce portal which provides a unique user experience allowing users to choose a bouquet and have it delivered to the desired destination around the world.  On the other hand, the system required a robust, fast and reliable back-end system allowing the web administrators to manage all the eCommerce portal contents and track orders, payments and statistics.

System design kicked off in April and system coding was well on its way early in May.  The system was developed using an agile development approach, setting deliverables and milestones around the end of May, June and Mid July.  The client was kept well informed of the progress at each stage of the development process, allowing for client contribution throughout.  System testing was concluded by the end of July, allowing the system to go live by early August.

The system was developed in such a way to integrate with more than one payment gateway, for various reasons, including the assurance of maximum availability.

The client immediately realised the importance of embarking on an on-going SEO campaign to ensure driving the maximum possible traffic towards the new website.  Given the agreed budget and targets, an SEO strategy was drafted and put into action as early as the end of August, with first results being noticed by the end of September which lead to the implementation of the second phase of the strategy.  By the end of November, the strategy and all the effort dedicated was paying off, with the website, which was initially a new domain seeing more than 400 visitors daily.

The success of the system, which by far exceeded the client's initial expectations triggered  the client's top management to immediately give the green lights for the development of a further four websites.
